A little over a month since announcing a new feature called Artist Profile Protection, Spotify is doubling down on against AI tracks landing on actual human artists’ profiles, unveiling its Verified by Spotify badge.
In addition to the new feature, Spotify will share extra details about artists’ activity – a Beta option at the time of publication. The moves follow recent expansions including SongDNA, revealing expanded song credits, About the Song, and AI credits.
The streaming service notes that the Verified by Spotify badge will appear on artist profiles that have been reviewed and meet the platform’s criteria for “authenticity and trust.”
Elaborating further on the criteria, artists will receive the Verified badge if they have consistent listener activity and engagement over time, good standing with Spotify’s policies, and signals of a real artist represented on their profile.

In other words, the streaming service is looking beyond one-time spikes in favour of consistency, already complying with rules, and finding signs of life outside of the platform, such as concert dates, merchandise, and aligning social media profiles.
The Verified by Spotify badge will be rolled out onto artist profiles, next to their names in the search function, over the coming weeks. The text “Verified by Spotify” will appear on artists’ profiles, alongside a light-green checkmark icon. Reviews will be conducted continuously.
As well as the badge, the beta functionality of artist profiles will be expanded. Artists’ details, such as career milestones, release activity, tour dates, and more, will feature on their profiles. The function will be rolled out on the “About” section of an artist’s profile in the coming weeks.
Spotify’s recent updates to artist protection arrive after fake or AI-generated songs have become more commonplace on artists’ profiles without their knowledge or consent.
In September, Spotify announced new measures to strengthen AI protections for artists and producers.
The measures include stricter rules against impersonation, a music spam filter, and new AI disclosures in music credits, all rolling out alongside its more recent updates.
