Gladiator star and Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe is looking to sign his first record deal in 17 years, he said on the Hit Network’s Jimmy & Nath Show yesterday.

Crowe has had a busy year in music, having been joined by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA on stage in May, accompanying Amy Shark for a rendition of Psycho at Groovin The Moo festival in May, and hanging out with Ed Sheeran and Snoop Dogg backstage at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. But what if he properly turns to music in 2024?

Appearing on the Jimmy & Nath Show, he said a few minutes into the interview, “The gigs this year generated a lot of interest, man, so it actually looks like I’ll be signing a record contract for the first time in 17 years. We’ve got some festival things in Europe we’re doing next year, which are going to be like, ‘Holy shit’ when people find out about what we’ve been invited to play.”

After touring, Crowe called music his “first love” and initially would have chosen music over acting before telling the story of how he scored his first acting gig. “The first part of it, you know, is that I learnt that it’s still my first love and greatest love,” he admitted.

“The second part of it is I learnt that I’m really getting fucking old! It’s all sliding doors.”

Earlier this year, Crowe talked about Amy Shark’s nerves as the I Said Hi singer prepared to introduce him at Groovin The Moo. Shark was worried; Crowe recalled her saying, “What if people don't know it’s you?' I’m like 'Ah, you know, they might. But if you want to say something, say are you not entertained?,” referencing his iconic line in Gladiator.

Crowe and Shark previously performed on stage at his Indoor Garden Party in January. Posting the clip on her Instagram story, Shark called Crowe blink-182’s Mark Hoppus's understudy (Hoppus appeared on the original version of Psycho) and captioned their performance, "This is how much Russell Crowe likes my song."

RZA also accompanied Crowe as part of the Indoor Garden Party series at The Bridge Hotel in Rozelle and performed Crowe’s song, Let Your Light Shine.
