RTRFM Launches Nyoongar Language Podcast
RTRFM enters National Reconciliation Week with the launch of its new Nyoongar language podcast, 'Kalyakoorl Waangkaniny.'

Perth/Boorloo community radio station, RTRFM, has expanded its reach by launching its new Nyoongar language podcast, Kalyakoorl Waangkaniny.
The radio station has marked the beginning of this year’s National Reconciliation Week with programming that will feature “bite-sized” lessons about the foundations of the Nyoongar language.
Dylan Collard and Kelsi Forrest will host the new podcast, where they’ll run through greetings, pronouns, family, animals, and more in engaging episodes. Importantly, Kalyakoorl Waangkaniny translates to “speaking forever,” an essential message that highlights the resilience and strength of First Nations people.
The first episode, Kaya, kaya, kaya, premiered on Tuesday (27 May) and explored how to greet Nyoongar people. New episodes will air weekly – you can see the order of the episodes below.

Kelsi Forrest added, “I have really enjoyed this experience of recording and sharing our Nyoongar language.
“I hope this podcast gives people the confidence to learn and speak Nyoongar. Practice makes perfect, and we all have to start somewhere! This is Nyoongar boodjar, we should try to speak more Nyoongar language.”
The launch of Kalyakoorl Waangkaniny comes after RTRFM triumphed at the Webby Awards, taking home the award for Best Music Website.
RTRFM, often dubbed 'The Sound Alternative,' redesigned its website in August 2024. The new design showcased RTRFM's innovative approach to digital design while staying true to its community-driven identity.
