Of Monsters And Men On Their Expansive Career & The Music Industry: "I Can Really See How Bizarre A Lot Of It Is"

PREMIERE: Tim Whitt Presents Adelaide Like You’ve Never Heard It Before

The path to Adelaide producer and sound designer Tim Whitt’s latest album has been one of exploration, as the muso created the new masterpiece using samples from the city of Adelaide.

With Geisel set to drop this Friday, we have the pleasure of delivering a teaser in the form of new single Paper City, which Whitt describes as “the busiest and most up-tempo song on the album”.

“It comes in with the sound of a passenger train-rushing overhead, which I recorded by attaching microphones to the middle of the railway line,” he says.

“The song also features a toy piano that some friends of mine found on the side of the road plus a recording of playing a parking sign with a drumstick.”

It’s a collaborative effort, with The Beards’ Joel McMillan on keyboard, ‘jazz flavours’ from Lucky 7’s Rich Horn and Ben Adamson, and guest vocals from Marcus McFly and Sim Jones.

“Mainly at the time I was just feeling more frustrated than usual with the current state of our planet, so I thought about what it would be like to be an alien seeing it from the outside looking in,” Marcus McFly explains.

“The story is about a visitor from another planet, who came to see where the Humans of Earth originated from, only to become stranded. Eventually, they manage to get off-world, but not before passing judgement on mankind due to how badly they've screwed things up.”

Whereas, Sim Jones took the opposite approach:

“When I heard the track it had an air of confidence about it and the lyrics flowed out of that,” Jones says. “The words and melody are from someone who is phased by nothing and can take anything in their stride. As if they’re walking through Adelaide with swagger.”

Whitt has also locked in a unique launch for the album called the Geisel City Soundtrack Tour. It goes down this Saturday, October 14, and will see him guide guests to unique locations around the city to listen to the album.
