SoundgardenRemaining members of the pioneering grunge outfit Soundgarden are set to reunite for a special performance next month, where they’ll be accompanied by a guest vocalist.
Soundgarden members Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, and Ben Shepherd will be joined by Taylor Momsen, lead singer of the rock band The Pretty Reckless, with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready providing additional guitar work for a halftime show at Lumen Field, Seattle, on Wednesday, 9 September.
The performance at the multi-disciplinary stadium takes place as the Seattle Seahawks play against the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch. The game launches the 2026/27 NFL season.
Since the tragic passing of frontman Chris Cornell in May 2017, Soundgarden have performed only on rare occasions, including a 2019 tribute concert called I Am The Highway, which saw various vocalists take on lead duties for the band’s songs.
Taylor Momsen was among the singers who joined the band on stage during their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last November – the last time they performed. Check out the performance below.
In December, the surviving members of Soundgarden reunited for a benefit show in Seattle. They were joined by vocalist Shaina Shepherd.
Last month, Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron revealed that the band’s final album – with Cornell’s recorded vocals – is in the “mixing” phase.
“Well, we don’t really have a [release] date yet,” Cameron told Dean Delray on the Let There Be Talk podcast.
He explained, “We’re just gonna try to get this thing mixed, get it over the finish line, and then hopefully we’ll have a better idea what’s gonna come next. We’re just taking it one step at a time ’cause it’s been kind of a long process just to get to here.”
In June, The Pretty Reckless unveiled their fifth album, DEAR GOD. The mammoth effort was produced by Taylor Momsen, Ben Phillips, and Jonathan Wyman and expands upon the group’s signature hard rock sound while pushing into new emotional and sonic territory.
Speaking about the album, Momsen remarked, “DEAR GOD is the most honest record we’ve ever made.
“Every song came from a real place, whether I wanted to admit it or not. There was no hiding behind characters or concepts this time. It’s all there… the doubt, the anger, the hope, the questions. We made the record we needed to make, and I’m incredibly proud of it.”
