The Northern Territory singer-songwriter knocks it out of the park with her soulful new jam.
In-demand Northern Territory singer-songwriter Caiti Baker is revving up for her appearances at BIGSOUND next week by unveiling her sublime new soul/hip-pop number I Won't Sleep, and The Music is stoked to be premiering the track today.
The NT Music Award-winning songstress reflects on her battle with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in the exuberant tune. Boasting clap-alongs, big band/soul influences (those horns!) and an immediate, intoxicating infectiousness, Baker has crafted a standout track with which to precede her forthcoming debut album Zinc, out this October.
"I Won't Sleep is a song about finding my identity after having been asleep with CFS for so long," she said in a statement.
"The driving production is a musical metaphor for the energy and hype that for so long was absent in my life. In a way, it's a celebration of having clarity and being present."

The album was produced by J. Mangohig (Daniel Johns, Briggs, and Baker's electro-soul/hip hop outfit Sietta) and Michael Hohnen (Dr G Yunupingu, Saltwater Band, Tom E Lewis), and draws on her own musical proclivities as well as influences from her collaborative stints with the likes of A.B. Original, Booker T, Briggs, Dan Sultan, Pete Murray and Son Little.
"It’s a hip hop album. It’s a soul album. It’s a roots album," Baker said of the record. "You can choose to pigeonhole me however you like, but the bottom line is that it’s my album.”
Zinc will be released on Friday 6 October through Perambulator Records/MGM Distribution.
