United We Stand.
Punchline play the Troccadero, Surfers Paradise on Friday.
“We're a punk rock band and we like to run amok and 'cause shit and get pissed,” starts Gold Coast band Punchline's guitarist Mark.
Punchline are one band that have been stirring a lot of controversy, I ask them to set the record straight about an incident that occurred at a local venue a few weeks back.
“False accusations,” replies bassist Damo.
“We got blamed for something we didn't do and we got turned off about five songs into our set,” explains drummer Tom.
“Yeah we come up from the Gold Coast to play a gig and that's what we get,” adds Mark.
“We apparently stole mikes from upstairs and downstairs at the same time. We're pretty swift handed,” Damo laughs sarcastically.
The band are playing at this week's launch show for Club Unite at the Troccadero on the Gold Coast.
“Club unite is something that we're trying to get up and running on the Gold Coast to get regular shows happening. Not actually concentrating on them as a gig but rather as a punk rock club for punk, rock, hardcore, swing psychobilly, ska and everything in between,” says Tom. “We're trying to enlarge the scene and just give everyone a place to hang out, there's a good scene but nowhere to go.”
For the uninitiated Punchline are a street punk band.
“Yeah we're street punk, thrashy, fast, in your face punk,” frontman Sutchy comments.
'How good our live show is depends on how drunk Sutchy is,” jokes Damo.
Some of Puchline's lyrics at times seem to be very un-PC.
“We don't give a fuck about PC 'cause we're not PC and we're not trying to cater to anyone but ourselves. The songs are written for the band not anyone else, we're not going to write lyrics for someone else,” Mark states.
“We say what people are thinking in their heads and can't say anyway,” Tom adds. “Our lyrics are from real life experience and we tell it like it is.”
Punchline seem like one really dedicated band.
“We're in it for the long run, we're in it for the fun, we love what we do and we're just going to keep on doing it, we want to support what we love too. Come to see us,” Mark welcomes.
“Keep the scene real,” Sutchy adds.
“Everyone should just support what they love and get behind the music give these people a reason to let us put on our own club so we don't just have to sit at home and have nothing happening on the Gold Coast and get into. Support your local scene,” finishes Tom.
