More Underground Lovers More Underground Lovers

Veteran indie-rockers Underground Lovers are set to return to the spotlight with their first new album since 2013's acclaimed Weekend this year, and The Music is proud to be premiering a fresh taste from the upcoming release in the form of new single Conde Nast Trap.

The jangly, spirited new cut — a long-time audience favourite at the band's shows for some time now — follows initial single Unbearable in previewing the new full-length, Staring At You Staring At Me, and was recorded live at Pharmacy Studios and sits as "an upbeat celebration of corporate paranoia and the love of money", underpinned by meaty guitar hooks, rolling bass and splashy yet tight drum lines.

Additional recording assistance came from longtime collaborator and audio engineer Wayne Connolly, with mixing by fellow old mate Tim Whitten.

According to vocalist Vince Giarrusso, the album's songs "were originally [intended] as a homage to Melbourne with specific locations and names scattered throughout".

Underground Lovers, in case you've missed their influence, formed in Melbourne in 1989, cutting their teeth before releasing their debut self-titled album in 1991 and going on to win the ARIA Award for Best New Band that year. They went on to support and tour with bands such as New Order, The Cure and My Bloody Valentine in the space of a little over a decade.

They released a further five albums between 1992 and 1999 before entering a nine-year hiatus in 2002. After their resuscitation with Weekend, they're now set to release their first full-length in nearly four years this coming March.
