PREMIERE: Nonsemble – ‘Cults’

Brisbane indie chamber ensemble Nonsemble have blended contemporary classical and adventurous pop music to perfection with new EP Cults.

Channelling post-rock/indie/electronic influences for five days in a Hobart studio with producer Dave Carter, the group has delivered captivating, re-imagined versions of songs from Kate Buch, Radiohead and more.

“Each [song] has something special about it that we thought might be highlighted in translation to our line-up of four strings, piano, guitar and drums,” said Chris Perren.

“Some of the arrangements are pretty faithful transcriptions, like the jubilant Sufjan Stevens cover Chicago, while others take bold interpretive liberties, like our Philip-Glass-plays-The-Stranglers version of Golden Brown.”
