After an eight-year hiatus, Against The Grain festival returns to Brisbane with an epic line-up of international and homegrown talent.

Presented by Brisbane promoter, online music zine, and creative influence GRAIN – commemorating its tenth anniversary – in collaboration with The Tivoli Group and The Princess Theatre, the event is part of the 2026 Open Season program.

This year’s Against The Grain will take over multiple venues across the Clarence Corner Precinct in Woolloongabba on Saturday, 20 June, transforming the city into a multi-stage, one-day festival site with 30+ acts set to perform.

Leading the event is Anglo-French avant-pop outfit Stereolab, locking in their first Brisbane show in 17 years. The festival is also home to an Australian exclusive from Perth psych rockers Pond, plus the long-awaited return of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and rising indie rock band The Belair Lip Bombs.

Elsewhere, this year’s festival welcomes artists including Detroit post-punk stalwarts Protomartyr—performing in Brisbane for the first time in nearly a decade—a special reunion performance from Magandjin favourites Good Boy, plus performances by Pool Shop, Hatchie, and up-and-coming acts including Way Dynamic, Acopia, Swapmeet, Public Figures, Gut Health, Twine, Selve, and many others.

Away from the live stages, the Echo & Bounce car park will be reimagined as an open-air dancefloor curated by party-starters, Natural Steps. The day will feature DJs such as Sacha Alexiou, Squidgenini, Deejay Hotline, Karishma, and Wil Knott, and will also host Visual Curation by Madeline Holt.

As the day comes to a close, the party continues at The Princess Theatre from 10 pm to 2 am with an Official Afterparty curated by and featuring Naarm-based producer Milo Eastwood. The event will also feature JNETT and Adriana.

Tickets to this year’s Against The Grain are available now—purchase yours here and check out the line-up below.

“With Against The Grain, we’ve wanted to build something that feels true to the community that surrounds it, something independent, intentional and a little bit unpredictable,” said Chris Langenberg, Senior Artist Booker and Event Programmer at The Tivoli Group, Founder and Manager and Promoter at GRAIN.

Langenberg added, “To bring it back after eight years, and to do it at this scale with artists we’ve grown alongside as well as those shaping what comes next, feels like a real marker of where GRAIN has come from and where it’s heading.”
