Melburnian indie rock quartet Neighbourhood Youth have been slugging away at their sophomore effort for over two years and are finally releasing the self-titled EP with theMusic.com.au today.
Foregrounded by singer John Philip's Polish Club-esque howl, along with the jangly guitar lines and hooks of Liam Jenkins, Jesse Dimond and Sam Nathan, the band's emotive songs have found them supporting The Pretty Littles and The Belligerents on tour.
The band drew inspiration from acts like Grizzly Bear and The National for the EP, with songs like Atlantic — about the life cycle of the Atlantic salmon, who die after giving birth so the young can feed on them and survive — show the quartet's exploration of mature themes and ideas.
The band worked with Greg Rietwyk (Tully On Tully) on the record at Northcote's Tender Trap Studios — check the entire EP out here!
