Sydney producer Dave Hammer has curated a broad spectrum of sounds throughout his career, working with the likes of acclaimed acts such as Thundamentals, Born Lion, Gay Paris and more over the years.
With new project For Millions, Hammer is taking centre stage with his brand of danceable, layered chiptune jams , with his first four concoctions gathered together on debut EP Music For The Future Of Retro Gaming, proudly premiering on The Music today.
With its Mario Bros-esque intro, opening track and first single Singularity Bi-Design lulls its listener in with cheery blips that give way to funk-shrouded synths, breathy arpeggios and spasmodic percussion, evoking the sorts of totally-works-but-probably-shouldn't infectiousness and delight of Dis*ka's Hey Dis*ko.
It's an allure that doesn't dip throughout the EP's four tracks; Adventure Space Finder utilises a Fame-like synth burst to lead into its lurching, robotic-yet-sensual soundscape, littered with delicate melodies and chopped-up piano, while Missing Metaphysics would be instantly at home as the level music to any given bright-and-colourful '80s arcade platformer.

The EP ends with the triumphant, uplifting, unabashedly 8-bit sounds of End Fire Flies In Glass Castles, completing a thoroughly entertaining and assured debut package from For Millions, bringing forth evocations of the likes of Crystal Castles, Daft Punk, Disasterpiece and even Ratatat, a comparison with whom Hammer is not shy about perpetuating:
"This was custom-built to party all the way into your flying car's 11.1 stereo system and beyond," he said in a statement. "Think Bowie and Ratatat locked in a hip-hop battle, bolstered by outrageous guitarmonies and furious beats."
It's a great comparison, but you don't just have to think it — give the EP a spin above, and head to For Millions' Facebook page for more information about upcoming projects and events.
