It's been about six months since Brisbane rockers Byron Short & The Sunset Junkies released their fifth album, Revelations, to warm reviews, and it's proven to be a gift that keeps giving, with the band's latest video, Young Man's Dream, premiering on theMusic.com.au today.
Just a few weeks out from launching the new single at Black Bear Lodge, the talented troubadour and his accompanying players have offered up a dark, magnetic yet sensual visual companion to the tune's deep, gravelly blues tones.
The clip, directed by Daryl Irvine and shot on location in the Currumbin Valley, Gold Coast, splits its focus between Short and his backing vocalist, the award-winning Francesca De Valence, jamming out by a campfire, and pseudo-voyeuristic footage of young women relaxing in and near a watering hole. The Golden Guitar-nominated troubadour also dons Baron Samedi-style, voodoo-esque facepaint at one point, for an extra element of discomfort.
Byron Short will team up with De Valence for a dual single launch — the latter is supporting her new effort Yellow — at Black Bear on Friday 24 February. Support will be provided by Boatkeeper.
