Briggs’ heavy metal meets hardcore punk project, BIG NOTER, is gearing up for a massive year. Today, the band has announced their debut album and a short run of tour dates.

Last April, the group made their live debut while opening shows for Tom Morello. To accompany the shows, BIG NOTER dropped their first single, IDENTITY.

Upon the song’s release, The Music commented that “It’s Briggs like you’ve never heard him. His raps are more aggressive than ever, while the guitar is nostalgic in its delivery.”

Last July, the group shared another song, TALK STRAIGHT. Now, another single – F.M.D. – has dropped as BIG NOTER announce that their debut album, Songs In The Key Of Wrestling, will be released on Friday, 18 September, via Island Records Australia.

You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

F.M.D. was produced by Nick DiDia (Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam) and targets the “lazy myths and deep-seated racism” towards Aboriginal people in Australia. Briggs said of the ferocious track:

Your average Australian (racist) comment section will have you believe Aboriginal people have FREE Californian bungalows and a Hilux in the driveway.

Here’s the list of things blackfullas get for free: Diabetes, Heart Disease, Incarceration, Suicide, unemployment and that’s just the top 5. Nothing given, only taken away! So, look, if you’re sick of hearing about it; imagine how we feel?! FMD!

Accompanying the album announcement is a speedy run of shows across the East Coast. BIG NOTER will perform at Brisbane’s Crowbar on Friday, 14 August, Sydney’s Crowbar on Saturday, 15 August, and an album launch show at Melbourne’s The Tote on Saturday, 19 September. You can find ticketing information on the BIG NOTER website.

Upon announcing his new project last year, Briggs said of his turn from hip-hop to heavy music, “People might be surprised, but this is where I’m most at home; this is the sound I was raised on.”
