A few tracks on the "bandier" side to help get you through the rest of the working week..

It's generally around this time of the week that we start to hit a wall, when those thoughts about calling in sick for work creep into our heads far more often than they probably should and our caffeine intake rises to dangerous levels. We get it, since Monday you've had one eye on the weekend and you're still only halfway there, another three days remain to painfully navigate and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it except to keep dragging yourself out of bed each morning. Thankfully, we've put together a list of the best new guitar-driven music you can wrap your ears around, from rock 'n' roll and grunge all the way through to hardcore and metal. Hopefully it's enough to help pull your mopey ass through Hump Day and the rest of the week.

Bloods (pictured top) - Bring My Walls Down

What better time to bring you one of the sunniest, most upbeat garage-pop tunes of the year than on the eve of the first day of spring? Even though it's still disgustingly wet and gloomy outside (where I am, at least), Bloods' fuzzed-out new tune, Bring My Walls Down, will definitely leave you feeling like blue skies and sunny afternoon beers are right around the corner. Forming back in 2011, this Sydney trio already have an EP ( 2013's Golden Fang) and a full-length (2014's Work It Out) under their belt, with Bring My Walls Down being our first taste of album number two. Bloods frontwoman, MC, spoke about Bring My Walls Down being a love song, but not in the traditional sense of the phrase: "BMWD looks at love as a disease, a kind of infection that infests your mind and body without you having any control over it; something that breaks through uninvited and reminds you that you’re an animal."

The Comfort - Your Heart

Another taste of the Brisbane alt-rock duo's forthcoming EP, Love, due out on September 16. The Comfort's tight, melody infused sound reminds me so much of early-mid 2000's post-hardcore bands like Saosin and Senses Fail (which is fucking epic), and they manage to put an impressive amount of grunt behind their music for a two-piece. Both members of The Comfort; Dom Harper on bass and Liam Holmes on guitar, contribute vocals for the band and they both have super powerful voices - so there's a lot of heart in everything these guys release. There aren't too many Australian rock bands channeling the kind of huge, melodic sound that The Comfort are at the moment, so I'm predicting big things for these fellas with the release of their Love EP.

Trophy Eyes - Heaven Sent

The second cut from Trophy Eyes' forthcoming, second record, Chemical Miracle, and it might surprise a few fans; with the Newcastle five-piece showing a slower, rockier side to themselves. While first single, Chlorine, was the usual energetic, bouncy brand of punk that we've come to expect from Trophy Eyes over the past few years and releases, Heaven Sent channels more of Basement-esque, shoegazey vibe, and the guys pull it off to perfection. Frontman John Floreani trades in his raspy yells for a smooth drone over the verse of Heaven Sent, paving the way for a super hard-hitting chorus that sees him belt out: "Stay away from me/Now that you know what kind of man I can be". Chemical Miracle will be out on October 14 through Hopeless Records.

Two Tongues - Azalea

Two Tongues is a collaborative project featuring members of legendary pop-punk bands Saves The Day (vocalist Chris Conley) and Say Anything (vocalist Max Bemis and drummer Coby Linder), with former Saves The Day member David Soloway taking on bass duties. I was a massive fan of this band's self-titled, debut record that came out back in 2009, so I was pretty stoked to finally hear some new music from them. I think the thing I love most about collaborative projects is that they usually sound nothing like the bands that their members are best known for, and this is certainly the case with Two Tongues. With two voices as unusual and distinctive as Bemis and Conley's fronting the band, first time listeners of Two Tongues may worry about being overpowered by nasally vocals, but just have a listen to Azalea and you'll see that the two vocalists play off of each other perfectly - particularly over the thumping chorus. Azalea comes from Two Tongues' aptly named sophomore full-length, Two Tongues Two, due out on October 14.

Apollo Zen - Wilderness Months EP

Apollo Zen are a fucking rad Perth hardcore band, dishing up some huge, rocky vibes on their brilliant new EP, Wilderness Months. With brothers Jared and Dylan Crowe (Miles Away, The Others) on guitar duties; Wilderness Months is brimming with massive riffs and is sure to appeal to heavy music fans who tend to gravitate towards rock rather than punk and hardcore. Frontman Brock Smith delivers dark, poignant lyrics with gripping vocals across the five-track release, with the opening lines of track three, Glide, being a prime example: "I'll wake one morning with eyes of ash/I'll wake one morning with dirt in hand." Wilderness Months is available to purhcase on cassette now through Second Guess Records.
