Billie EilishBack when she first caught our attention with one of her earliest singles, Ocean Eyes, it was clear that the then-13-year-old Billie Eilish had a bright future ahead. However, we had her tipped to go down the route paved by names like Florence + The Machine and AURORA, mixing stripped-back, indie instrumentals with soaring vocals that would soon become famous. In the few years since Ocean Eyes, Eilish has proved herself as a whole different force. As exhibited on singles like Ocean Eyes and the Khalid-featuring Lovely, she's well and truly capable of tender moments marked with emotion. However, at the same time, tracks like her addictive break-out bellyache have showcased a more pop-centric side of Eilish that when played live, sees her transform into a more flavourful artist you can just see being a hit in both the commercial and underground worlds.
You should see me in a crown, her previously most recent song, continued to pave a lane for Eilish that was both experimental yet incredibly exciting, seemingly fitting her twisted, 'not your normal pop star' image a little better with its warping production and haunting feel. In saying that, her latest single when the party's over sees her take a step back, returning to the washed-out, piano-backed sound that captured our attention initially as her emotion-stricken voice swells over the single's stripped-back production that grows and grows as the song draws longer.
It arrives with the promise of a debut album in 2019, and news that she'll be performing a select few east-coast dates with Florence + The Machine in January next year – check out the dates below.
