What you need to know about your BIGSOUND artists.

Answered by: Nurudin Sadali

Give us a short description of your music: Indie-electronica duo with dark beats, deft lyricism and immersive vocals, as featured in Sundance Film Festival and Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards. “Deep, introspective and Bjork-esque” – EARMILK US/Canada

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND? Stevan is definitely a must-see. We also want to catch Boy Azooga, Electric Fields, Jeida Woods and Gordon Koang. Not forgetting the acts that'll be sharing the stage with us, Caracal and Lincoln Lim.

Why should people come and see you among the many amazing bands at BIGSOUND? We usually play as an electronic duo but this time we'll be bringing along our band. Drummer Teo Jia Rong and bassist Tim De Cotta are among the most in-demand and experienced sessionists in our scene. They've added more dynamism and excitement to our live set.

What music trends do you think are dominating right now, and do you have any predictions for the coming year? A lot of electronic elements have infiltrated the popular music scene. It's different because it's not just elements borrowed from genres like EDM or trap. There's a lot more nuance and subtlety with regards to the choice of electronic elements. The best example would be Billie Eilish's distinctive style.

In your career to date, what have been the key watershed moments? Our set at Laneway 2015 was an important milestone. It was well received by both local and international media. We also played at Sundance and Sheffield Doc/Fest last year, because weish (our frontwoman) was involved in creating music for the award-winning film Shirkers.

What industry lessons would you like to take away from the BIGSOUND conference? We'd love to learn more about touring Australia and regionally. We feel like BIGSOUND will offer us really useful insights about planning and maximising our reach when planning for tours.

What do you identify as the most pressing issue impacting the Australian music industry at present? I feel like Australian bands aren't maximising their reach in areas like South-East Asia. South East Asia offers an untapped market hungry for new independent music.

What is the best bit of advice you've been given to prepare for your time at BIGSOUND? I think the best bit of advice was for us to have fun during our set. The audience is discerning enough to see when the band is enjoying themselves on stage. And if the band feels (and sounds) good, it'll translate into the audience as well.

When and where is your BIGSOUND showcase? 4 Sep, Hear65 @ BIGSOUND, Ric's Big Backyard, 5pm.
