"Back in 2014, we had this cool loft above a farmhouse where we could play music all night and day."
Nu wave rockers Dominiques may be fairly new on the scene, but their approach to recording is tried and true. "We go for perfection," says frontwoman Amber Ross, "but to get what we want we need to be vibing. That sounds really cliche. We all lost our shit at some stage, trying to recreate the magic of a live show, but in a studio recording. The fairy lights definitely helped."
It's taken a while for the band to drop their self-titled EP, but Ross says the time growing and bonding as a group was important. "Each of us travelled from different parts of Australia and all met in the hills of Lismore. Back in 2014, we had this cool loft above a farmhouse where we could play music all night and day. The creation station was fuelled by endless cups of tea and home cooking."
The EP, inspired by "the colour pink and love", came as much out of necessity as it did the music itself. "People kept asking for our CD at live shows. And we didn't have one," Ross laughs. "We recorded the EP at a secret studio in the Northern Rivers with Paul Pilsneniks. He came highly recommended and was amazing to work with." She continues, "It was so much fun being in the studio. Paul is a really amazing guy to work with, and our good friend and producer Torsten Gustavsson - who has now joined our band as guitarist - was an endless source of inspiration."
The hard work has paid off for Ross and the rest of Dominiques. It's a total dedication to their work, or, as Ross herself puts it, "Avoiding never got nuttin' done."
