New Music: How To Dress Well & TALA – The One
How To Dress Well and new flame TALA team up for a new-age take on love.. When big brands; Nike, Adidas and any number of alcohol companies get involved in making sponsored articles it often seems that they lack any real feeling. Adidas and Yours Truly’s (publication company) creation ‘Songs From Scratch’ have bucked this by creating a space to host tracks made by talented artists in a 24 hour timeframe. In the past this has been done with Danny Brown/Araabmuzik and Jeremih/Shlohmo to name a few, and with overwhelmingly good results. Their latest session has brought together How To Dress Well and TALA for a track called The One, and it has resulted in not one, but two different versions of The One to admire. Arguably the differences are minimal with How To Dress Well’s track slightly longer and more subdued. If you pause only momentarily to gaze on to this song then take in the gliding choruses of How To Dress Well, the Jersey club-esque breakdowns and the surging darkness amidst the

New Music: Stwo - Eden (Omniment Remix)
Omniment’s remix of Eden is a serious kick-back-and-relax tune.. In recent weeks there have been a flurry of producers remixing Stwo’s Eden, and following MUTO’s effort last week, his and now Omniment’s re-work have really stood out. Omniment being no stranger to Pilerats with a remix Godwolf’s See It Through premiering on the site last year. Omniment’s remix seems to embody the connotations of Eden with the airy vocals and majestic synths, and despite lacking any clear-cut lyrics it still manages to strike a chord with its raw nature, complex layering and emotive intro. And it doesn’t sit on a normal plane, but transcends it with the innocent nature of the instrumentals. Follow Omniment: FACEBOOK / SOUNDCLOUD

Video: Cosmo's Midnight - Snare
Cosmo’s Midnight take some girls for a ride in their new R&B crooner.. After unleashing Snare, a seductive elemental track, the flames were lit and with the announcement of an EP for 2015 a wildfire seemed only moments away, especially given our nation's youth broad caster falling in love with the track equal as much. The relaxing nature of Wild Eyed Boy’s dulcet tones become the backdrop for a claustrophobic car ride becoming steadily filled with past girlfriends of the young race-car driver, well he looks like one going off his outfit. Indeed, it seems likely that he dated them all at once considering their near identical fashion choices of high socks, hip sneakers, pig tails, varsity jackets, lollipops and colourful eye shadow. And now they’ve come back as a form ‘emotional baggage’ that as a race-car driver he is struggling to deal with, in line with Snare's hook - "I'll always be their for you." They're also heading on tour over February and March, check the dates after the vid:

San Holo Australian Tour
Disney's arch-nemesis is coming to Oz.. When we last heard from San Holo the Dutch fruity future wave producer was gearing up to release a bucketload of succulent remixes, oh and being asked by Disney to stop using San Holo or cough up $10 million due to copyright issues with the Star Wars name Han Solo. Since then the firey remixes have burst into the cyber-space, Disney are still being a pain and now San Holo is coming to Australia to presumably pay off Disney one day. And he isn't just visiting 'Australia' i.e. Sydney and Melbourne but the whole country for what will be an unmissable tour of 2015. The tour dates are below:   Follow San Holo: FACEBOOK

Interview: SOHN
Christopher Taylor AKA SOHN, takes five with Liam Apter ahead of Laneway and some sideshows.. Interviewing SOHN was not easy with phone lines dropping (mostly due to my useless phone) but with the conversation taking place across multiple continents it made for an interesting insight into the man under the hood, Christopher Taylor. And what was most intriguing for me was his versatile use of light within his set despite the fact that he was colour-blind - it's mind-blowing to think of the hugely different interpretations he could take away simply because he saw colours in a different light. SOHN is in Australia this month appearing at the Red Bull Music Academy x Future Classic Stage at St Jerome's Laneway Festival and a couple of sideshows, and will be playing a couple of special sideshows too:

New Music: Tobias Jesso Jr. - How Could You Babe
Tobias Jesso Jr. continues to break hearts much the same way Godzilla does Japanese cityscapes - effectively.. Come 2015 blogs will keenly you tell about the next rapper to watch with his cunning ability to 'bitch' lots of times in one song, or about some soppy English indie-synth band, but here at Pilerats we're not doing that, we're just telling you to pay attention to Tobias Jesso Jr. And that's for a few reasons: his past releases such as Hollywood will probably melt your senseless heart, his debut album is called Goon and uh the obvious which is that he writes brilliant piano ballads reminiscent of John Lennon and early Billy Joel. Putting aside the fact that the man named his debut album Goon, Jesso Jr. is American so he is probably unaware of the Australian connotations, and earning his position as an honourary Australian his latest single How Could You Babe showcases his talent but also a willingness to develop it. Previous releases like Hollywood presents a bare but endearing

Interview: Vic Mensa
Vic Mensa tells of being struck by 15,000 volts, and racial issues in the US ahead of his Laneway appearance.. Vic Mensa had a breakout 2014, kickstarted by his huge single Down On My Luck, along with being apart of/starting the Save Money collective with Chance The Rapper and Joey Purp. He's in Australia this month appearing at the Red Bull Music Academy x Future Classic Stage at St Jerome's Laneway Festival and a couple of sideshows (dates down the bottom), and Liam Apter was fortunate enough to have a candid chat with the young star on the rise: Hey Vic how's it going, where are you at the moment? I’m in Chicago, my hometown. Cool let's start there - I wanted to asked about how when Lollapalooza was on in Chicago a few years you got electrocuted by like 15,000 volts! Is that true? Yeah man. I got fucking shocked when I was trying to get into Lollapalooza and I fell like 30 foot off a bridge because I was shocked by like 15,000 volts. And I performed at Lollapalooza that next year an

Premiere: Aela Kae - We Come Back
Aela Kae's latest single We Come Back is the perfect way to start Monday.. When I last wrote about Aela Kae's track Pure Zone I spoke of the sense of quiet embedded within her music. We Come Back takes cues from Pure Zone but showcases a delicate strength not seen before with the airy vocals and frisky drumbeat. Much like Pure Zone, We Come Back never becomes too loud but the differences appear in the elemental nature of the track seducing your attention. And that discreet difference is what makes We Come Back so soothing and enticing. It doesn't reveal itself in one listen but over time its layered beauty appears. A perfect track to start a dreary Monday if ever there was one.  We Come Back is the first song off Aela Kae's upcoming EP Reverie, and Aela Kae is also part of the same management group, Breaknative, as wunder-artist JOY. so you won't want to miss this EP.    Follow Aela Kae: FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM

New Music: Eves The Behavior - TV
Eves The Behavior debut single, TV, reveals her precocious talent for making pop.. Laneway has a talent for putting unknown but talent-endowed Australian acts on their bill, with last year’s lineup including heartstring yanker MT WARNING for instance. And 2015 is no different with Eves The Behavior. Formerly known only as Eves, 2015 looks to be the year that she starts to fan the flames of interest. The opening subdued atmosphere of TV accentuates Eves’ voice, which orchestrates the ebb and flow of the track. Especially when the track takes on an epic quality with the thumping drums and the voice of Eves that’s neither overly saccharine nor too shrill. TV emphasizes that you don’t need to pigeonhole her as the next ‘Lorde’ because Eves The Behavior knows how to craft a damn good piece of pop that cuts through plenty fine on her own.
