More Wil Anderson Wil Anderson

Wil Anderson is one of Australia's most interesting and long-lasting comics - precisely because he's been so visible for so long, but has actually managed to adapt to a changing media landscape. He's got three free podcasts, one of which we admit we are a big fan of (listen to Wilosophy, just do it), an active presence on social media, oh and one of the most loved TV programs in the country. But his first love is stand-up.

Fire At Wil feels like a natural extension of his podcast - it takes on the big issues of how we live our lives: the necessity of humans working together, and encompasses his political views: that in order, these are the people whose lives were ruined when Malcolm Turnbull became Prime Minister last year — Tony Abbott, Wil Anderson, Bill Shorten.

It's a clever show, perfectly put together, honed over two comedy festival seasons. But Fire At Wil also doesn't have the same everyman relatability of past triumphs like the structured storytelling of 2014's Wiluminati — probably the Australian focus, probably the lack of a through line akin to Matt Damon. Still the chuckles are constant, and Anderson 's aiming to fire, at the monarchy, the mistreatment of Adam Goodes, Australia Day. He's right on the money, and he's very very funny.
