Live Review: Vera Blue, Alice Ivy, Kira Puru

1 June 2018 | 4:18 pm | Georgia Maclaren

"'Lady Powers' closes the night and it's an exciting performance since Pavey invites Kira Puru and Alice Ivy back to the stage to join her in singing out the rest of the track."

More Vera Blue More Vera Blue

The doors to The Tivoli open and the venue seems to pack out instantaneously. Kira Puru opens the night with consistent and cool tones. Alice Ivy is next to perform and, though her set does nothing to distract the crowd from anticipating the main act, it's a fitting addition to the theme of the night.

Boasting a pure and graceful stage presence, Vera Blue (aka Celia Pavey) commences the set with her popular track Private, immediately awakening our excitement. Her hit Give In follows and there is no dwindling of energy throughout her set. Between the third and fourth track of the night, Pavey introduces herself as well as the band that accompanies her. She then goes on to thank her fans and acknowledges the themes of heartbreak and strength that inspired the songs on her Perennial record.

The show continues at a slower pace with First Week and the crowd sings along. This is the first high point of the night.

The cinematic AV aspects of this show are seamlessly paired with Pavey's execution. A diverse colour palette is utilised throughout the show, specifically in the lighting design. Pavey introduces Said Goodbye To Your Mother, a song that affects us emotionally. Mended is another mammoth song that brings us together.

During the last 15 minutes of the show, Pavey thanks her band once more as well as the production crew and venue staff. The second last song Regular Touch raises our energy levels to new heights. Lady Powers closes the night and it's an exciting performance since Pavey invites Kira Puru and Alice Ivy back to the stage to join her in singing out the rest of the track. As this song comes to an end, white roses are thrown out to the crowd. The audience is buzzing as they spill out of the venue.
