A humble French record and clothing label, run with love by designers and artisans, unified by desire to collect like-minded musicians who push boundaries with heart and style to compliment their creations on the dancefloor. Welcome to the French fashion and music emporium that is Kitsuné.
Accessorised with a cornucopia of trendy acts such as Gigamesh and Metronomy that soundtrack a Parisian fashion montage just as comfortably as a drive to your rich cousin's engagement party, their latest mix-tape has 20 artists strutting their wares with mostly swishy success. Label founder Gildas has even coaxed '80s acid-midget Adamski out of retirement for the fascinating curio, I Like It. A bundle of shiny disco remixes cut some rug such as Friendly Fires' Hurting (remixed by Tensnake) and Jerry Bouthier (under his JBAG guise) takes on Housse de Racket and Reflex. If you're unfamiliar with any of these names then treat this compilation as your own musical catwalk of things to savour, be excited and exposed by. Seamlessly mixed, throwing in a few familiar friends (The Rapture remixed by Cut Copy; M83 by Trentemøller), there's no big blasts of anything so de rigueur as dubsteppy wub-wub, just a pleasantly upbeat stream of disco grooves and happy house.
Kitsuné Maison regularly release mix CDs thay rarely put a foot wrong. Last year's Indie-Dance Issue was a career highpoint, mixing French hipsters with darker dancing. Discerning fashionistas would be well served by this foxy compilation. The quality of the fabric is luxurious, the designers all worthy of watching.
