Album Review: Tomorrows Tulips - When

StarStarStar

"A drive-time pastiche of hits and misses"

Californian trio Tomorrows Tulips have gone for the scattergun approach with third album, When, and fittingly with mixed results. Opener, Baby, is a sunny garage gem that could stand tall alongside The Who’s rollicking pop moments; Favourite Episode is an instrumental that takes its cues from Moore and Ranaldo; Down Tuned Self Pity is a lo-fi, down-low rumination fit for any number of indie po-faces. Most of it is done well, but the constant flitting through fidelity and focus is detrimental in the end – a drive-time pastiche of hits and misses.
