Perth trio Them Sharks' latest album is like being barefoot on hot sand: if you end up dancing, it's mainly because it's less painful than standing still.

The dub-reggae-punk fusion seems custom made for summers at Cottesloe, but doesn't quite come to life in the studio. As the title suggests, there's a geeky aura to this beach party, evoked by alien-themed single Tsoukalos. But the fact they've put a beat to the Democracy Manifest meme betrays a laddish sense of humour that hits its nadir on Danger Zone, whose rap about deciding which female fan to take home and "be all over... like caramel on ice cream" is just obnoxious.
