His presence is much larger than life, more like a real, living cartoon character than a mere mortal rapper.
The sniffer dogs were rubber necking out the front of the Enmore enthusiastically discovering discarded roaches while the crowd mingled, most folks hopefully smart enough to get their herbal refreshments in away from the frontline. No such worries for the guys mingling around the side of stage blazing up as Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller starts his high energy set. The crowd is familiar enough with his big hits to give the rapper some love and the hardcores down the front eat up his long support set with enthusiasm and hands in the air.
The sold out Enmore was full and bouncing before Miller finishes his set, and after a short intermission the first of Snoop's entourage enter the stage, with DJ and keyboard player getting the party started with a bit of 2Pac California Love and some classic Dre before the rest of the Snoop's band joined the stage, an impressive festival ready line up of drums, guitar and bass to add some extra oomph to the beats. As soon as Snoop entered the stage, the crowd went the extra level of nuts that they were holding out. His presence is much larger than life, more like a real, living cartoon character than a mere mortal rapper. His extra curricular activities and celebrity status contributes to this, but he's also a veteran of hip hop whose ever evolving nature has kept him in the limelight without compromising his earlier work. Its evident in the variety of the material he has to draw from.
Starting with a couple of Snoop Lion numbers, he soon hits one of the sets absolute strong points, a massive version of his collaboration with 50 Cent P.I.M.P which has so much swagger it's ridiculous. He's helped out by no less than four hype men as well as Nasty Dogg a basketball type mascot Disneyland nightmare complete with a laser pointer and a massive penis with which to annoy the crowd. The biggest moments of the set aren't a surprise, all the classics from Doggystyle bring the roof down and Drop It Like It's Hot goes even one step further. The finale is a massive singalong version of Wiz Khalifa's Young, Wild and Free complete with a threat to return soon, despite the forces who try to prevent him entering our country.
