Album Review: Red Jezebel - Coup De Grace

"Coup De Grâce sounds like most of the last eight years was spent being added to and simmered like a finely-tuned hearty soup."

The Perth indie scene hit a massive purple patch in the late ‘90s but Red Jezebel became somewhat relegated to ‘also ran’ status when compared to the heights scaled by Jebediah and Eskimo Joe.

Returning with – astonishingly – only their third album, Coup De Grâce sounds like most of the last eight years was spent being added to and simmered like a finely-tuned hearty soup. There’s glam rock, road rock, stoned rock but no hard places, putting the revitalised Red Jezebel on similar ground to Supergrass’ Gaz Coombes’ solo albums. They’ve served their most well-balanced album yet.
