It’s a rare thing to have the chance to enjoy the work of an old gospel great in 21st century clarity, but to have it restored and completed by none other than Jeff Tweedy and members of the Staples family is a whole other blessing. Don’t Lose This is a collection of tastefully sparse songs fleshed out with back-up singing from the surviving Staples sisters, and drumming from Spencer Tweedy. These simple additions create an instantly appealing framework for Pops Staples’ soulful voice and guitar.
