Album Review: Once Human - Evolution

StarStarStar

"This second LP isn't short on heft, intent or groove."

More Once Human Once Human

This project's potential proved sufficient motivation to coax former Soulfly/Machine Head axeman, turned in-demand knob-twiddler Logan Mader back into the van after an extended hiatus from the road.

Melodic death metal bolstered by a three-guitar attack, this second LP isn't short on heft, intent or groove. It's a tad shy in the knockout hook department perhaps, although Australian vocalist Lauren Hart growls with conviction. You can certainly play "spot the influence" on occasion, and the overall execution doesn't quite live up to the title's decree, but Evolution's a promising exercise. File under: for fans of Arch Enemy and DevilDriver.
