Nadia ReidThe New Zealand singer’s sometimes melancholy, often longing, tones come from the folk and country traditions certainly, but have a real spirit of place to them as well.
The ‘escapee from a 1960s Christian youth group’ look is also misleading. Reid’s darkly plaintive voice might be looking for salvation, but could be just wanting to lose Track Of The Time in a lover’s arms. Elsewhere, like Holy Low, there’s an almost Mazzy Star twang to it. But just listen and lose yourself in it, for it is often glorious.
