McHugh’s brand of Rasta-reggae is too pallid to be uplifting and too bubbly to feel genuine.

More Mat McHugh More Mat McHugh

This drawling EP bops on and on to a sunny, slow-paced rhythm akin to a Jack Johnson/Bob Marley combo. McHugh's brand of Rasta-reggae is too pallid to be uplifting and too bubbly to feel genuine. The wormy More Money expresses a sweet (though overused) sentiment about the evils of money, which relies on hackneyed, passive lyrics. The highlight cover of The Clash's The Guns Of Brixton (Guns Of Brixton/Dub Be Good 2 Me) flaunts a moody bassline and ringing psych elements. But apart from McHugh's generic vocals, it differs little from the original.
