Mark Knopfler seems to produce music at a momentous rate; it’s clear the former Dire Straits frontman simply can’t sit still and it’s somewhat our gain on Tracker.
It doesn’t quite live up to 2012’s darkly rollicking Racketeering but it’s an enjoyable journey nonetheless. Mighty Man and Basil put Knopfler’s deep, woody voice firmly in the spotlight for these intimate slow-burners, while the suave rock of Long Cool Girl has echoes of the man’s edgy past. But some of the longer tracks, like Laughs & Jokes & Drinks & Smokes exhibit extra effort for near nil effect.
