"Bodies were being thrown around, the ground was sticky and the room was sweaty."

More Luca Brasi More Luca Brasi

As the bodies piled into the iconic Tasmanian venue for what felt more like a house gig than a pub gig, we knew we were in for a special night. Despite the icy weather, it was warm inside as the room filled with excitement - not only for having Luca Brasi back to play two sold out home shows, but for the line-up featuring such strong Tasmanian talent.

Hobart band Speech Patterns kicked things off, playing a Tasmanian show for the first time in a while, followed up by local artist Maddy Jane who kept the crowd moving and completely engaged in her energetic performance. Everyone was very excited and proud to have the shows opened up by local acts and the room was full even before Luca Brasi took to the stage.

American band Pianos Become Teeth played a short set before the main event for their first time back in Australia since 2014. They engaged the crowd and allowed the keener punters in the front row to take over the microphone at some points throughout their set.

At about 11pm Luca Brasi took to the stage to play to what felt like a room full of their closest friends, and in all honesty, it probably was. Not only was it their first home show in a while, it was also an iconic date for the Brisbane Hotel, celebrating their tenth birthday. Frontman Tyler Richardson paid tribute to this, reminiscing on when the band played their first ever show on this stage seven years ago, profusely thanking the Brisbane Hotel and Hobart for being behind them every step of the way.

After opening up with Aeroplane and keeping things going with faithful singalongs such as Anything Near Conviction, Say It Back, Count Me Out, The Cascade Blues - which they dedicated to Hobart - and their new single Got To Give. Bodies were being thrown around, the ground was sticky and the room was sweaty. Luca Brasi never fails to put on a show, but this one seemed extra special, a big party of love and bursting pride for our homegrown talent. Good one Hobart, you've done it again.
