'In My Pocket' is the third single from Pure Moods off their debut self-titled album, and it's jangly guitar pop with solid lyrics and a bang-up solo.
Melbourne three-piece PURE MOODS have dropped the third single from their self-titled debut LP, ‘In My Pocket’. The band is made up of Adam Madric, Wyatt Knowles, and Alex Lashlie, and their record is out on Deaf Ambitions. It’s simple guitar pop at its finest, with jangly, open guitars and a thick bass line.
Madric’s voice isn’t the most pitch-perfect out there, but it’s gentle and unforced. Rather than pushing it too far, he chooses to focus more on the lyrics themselves, which tumble out in an almost stream of consciousness, shrouded in an unapologetic Aussie accent.
Madric explains, “When I was reading over the lyrics to this song recently, I was reminded of the time in my life when it was written. I was not in a good place. It’s clear by listening that I was sad and feeling isolated, but it reminds me that it extends beyond that. Lyrics like 'I rearranged the chairs, am I the only one who cares?' draw my attention back to how dark and stagnant my life became for a short while. The fact that I was allowing shit like couch arrangement to affect my mood was no good — haha.”

As ‘In My Pocket’ unfolds it takes on a slightly grungier, fuller sound, punctuated with a clean guitar solo that really boosts the song as a whole. While the Mac DeMarco-esque opening riff is appealing, the heavier sound at the close of the track felt more in keeping with the sombre lyrics.
As a whole, it’s a pearler. Pure Moods deliver once again with this single, serving as chilled out, Sunday arvo Aussie guitar pop that’s definitely worth a listen.
