Live Review: Glades release fierce new single 'Crush' off their forthcoming album

Sydney trio Glades have dropped yet another funky upbeat pop tune that marks the third instalment off their forthcoming album, Planetarium. This electro-pop outfit, comprised of lead vocalist Karina Savage and multi-instrumentalist producers Cameron Robertson and Joseph Wenceslao, bring a self-assertive touch to this song that explores the confusions in love when misreading intentions.

Bold and fierce, this fresh and groovy bop opens strong with Katrina's confident vocals, "Did I say too much? I don't wanna be your crush, it's a no from me, it's a no on us," setting the tone for the rest of this self-assured song. With a strong beat, vocals that exude stark feminine energy, and an energetic hook that makes us all feel that burn of rejection, this song brings forward addictive sounds of electro-pop. Layered with riffing guitars that bring touches of funk, swirling electronic sounds, and pulsating bass, Glades are coming in hot with this new release that is sure to excite listeners for their upcoming album.

Reflecting on their new single, Glades said, “People can misread intention - sometimes you’re just being nice, but the other person might take it as you being interested in them. Shoutout to people who work in hospitality… We wanted to make a song that was very bass & groove-driven, and it ended up as 'Crush'.”

This latest release from Glades follows on from their previous singles 'Vertigo' and 'Blonde' which will all feature on their forthcoming album set for later this year. With 'Vertigo' exploring the blinding nature of love, 'Blonde' shedding light on breakups, and now 'Crush' looking at relationships and the blurred lines of intention, Planetarium is set to be an all-encompassing body of work diving into the multifaceted world of love. The new album will be the first full-length release from the band since their 2018 debut album To Love You.

Standing their ground with this new striking tune, Glades brings an air of self-confidence to 'Crush' that is relatable and incredibly catchy. Mastering sounds of electro-pop with touches of groove and funk, this new song highlights the band's strong skills as a multi-talented trio. With their highly anticipated album Planetarium on the way, we can only expect more great things from Glades to come.
