Live Review: Falcons ‘Terra’ EP

FALCONS has just put out his debut Fool’s Gold record titled ‘Terra’ and it is absolute fire.

Fool’s Gold are notorious for bringing into the limelight some of the world’s best club musicians. You could also argue that they’re also one of the world’s biggest and most recognised labels in the electronic scene.

FALCONS is one of their signees, and he’s just put out his debut Fool’s Gold record titled, Terra. You’d probably recognise him as being part of the Athletixx crew alongside Kittens, Hoodboi and Promnite.

It’s pretty spacious in terms of sounds he’s explored. There’s a real sense of boundary pushing here in this one, and tbh, this is actually a pretty memorable release.

Track 1 ‘Aquafina’ sets the tone in a sunny way; birds chirping intro this dynamic number to us. It crashes in with a set of heavy beats and a heatwave of fire-y synths, and finally, some killer bars from up and comers GoldLink and Chaz French.

Continuing the heat, he brings Stush in on vocal duties for this one, and she spits some really hot fire in ‘Flame’. It’s the tropical variances in her voice that make this one so distinct, as well as the rampant pace that just screams out from this one. Falcons has got a real knack for pushing a track forward, and his percussion skills definitely stand out.

‘Terra’ is more focused on the production, and keeping in step with his hip-hop preferences, there’s a really cool array of vocal samples. As I understand, most of them are his own vocals that he’s chopped and cut to suit the vibe of the track. This one feels the least summer-y, however it feels the most technical. He’s got an eye for perfection, and each rhythm, each sound and each beat has been so well calculated.

We end on ‘Boss Mackin’’, an absolute bomb of a track. It’s got eclectic samplings that sound more techno in the glitchy sense than anything on this EP. If anything, Falcons is just further solidifying his diversity by using these different sounds and bringing in these diverse hip hop artists. A-1 is given a spin in this one, and his rather confronting demeanour in terms of his vocals really sets this one a notch above the rest.

If there’s anything at all that we can take from this, it’s that Falcons isn’t afraid to push boundaries. He’s got a clean sound and paired with some fantastic hip hop artists, he’s really made a sound that’s so distinguishable and very his own.
