Live Review: PREMIERE: Demon Days return with a bold and delicate new single in 'Safehouse'

Western Australian neo-soul band DEMON DAYS are back this week with a spellbinding new single, 'Safehouse'. Proving once again why they are an act to watch, 'Safehouse' is a remarkably delicate, shimmering dream and we're thrilled to be premiering this on Purple Sneakers today.

Masters of taking their listeners on a journey, 'Safehouse' opens with some gradually blooming instrumentation courtesy of Joshua Chan (Keys), Mark Ashforth (Drums) and Marley Donnan-Cook (Bass), before picking up in intensity. All the while, vocalist Bella Nicholls' voice positively floats above the steadily swelling fray below it, sounding at once bold and assured as it does intimate and inviting.

Inspired by the aftermath of the end of a tumultuous relationship, Nicholls said of the song, “When hearts are on the table, a person’s own inner turmoil can force them to abuse the love of others. The result of which, can leave you feeling like the whole experience was fraudulent. But, I like to think, with that comes a silver lining of growth upon reflection. This song marks an important time in my life, the first where I had to really show great strength and resilience.”

Out in the world tomorrow, 'Safehouse' is an arresting listen and one that reveals itself more and more as you hit the replay button. It's another slam dunk for Demon Days!
