With music as thoughtful as it is diverse, Melbourne electronic duo Deja have had a busy 2014. Having been named in the top 10 most played Unearthed Triple J artists for the year and releasing an acclaimed EP which aimed to delve listeners further into an ‘introspective journey’ of sound, it seems the duo cannot be stopped.
Off their recent Infinite Ecstatic EP ‘Sirens’ is a song that landed Deja as finalists on the 2014 Vanda and Young songwriting competition, yet another accolade for 2014. With a delicate intro yet driving production, the song is filled with plenty of warm and melodic synth jabs, drumming bass and idyllic, caressing vocals.
The build up to the chorus and the layers introduced as the song is in full momentum is deliciously club-like, the pulsating bass-lines a runway for blissful, rising vocals. In fact, it is this slow build up that moves through the song that makes it so engaging, as if creating a story that just keeps getting better and better.
If 2015 is to be anything like 2014 for the duo then they’ll be well on their way to making a huge stamp on the electronic scene as well as the whole musical world.
