When a pop song comes along that's as menacing and commanding as CXLOE's 'Monster', you have no choice but to sit down, shut up and listen.
When it comes to Australia's electronic-pop scene, it is - perhaps justifiably - drenched with uplifting, summer-ready anthems. So naturally, when someone takes a haunting and brooding approach so sharp it'll give you whiplash, it's hard not to pay attention. That whiplash comes courtesy of CXLOE who, to put it simply, is going to be huge. Having already garnered serious internet buzz with her lead single 'Tough Love', she's made it two-for-two with the ominous and powerful 'Monster'.
Erupting with a startling synths and ever-terrifying panted breath, the theme of the song is painfully clear. Her vocal delivery is both sensual and scary, echoing an assertive darkness that matches the creeping production perfectly. In a manner that's incredibly similar to Banks, CXLOE dives deep into her past indiscretions while still maintaining a firm power stance and unshakable confidence. The entire track oozes a vulnerable darkness, but CXLOE shows no hesitation in using her voice as shining light that carries it all.
When a pop song comes along that's as menacing and commanding as CXLOE's 'Monster', you have no choice but to sit down, shut up and listen. She completely commands attention from start to finish, as the ominous and eerie synths swell and swallow you completely. It's a dark listening experience that you won't be able to get enough of, and it's completely on CXLOE's terms.
