Things are about to get weird.

As more and more gear and amps start to get lugged onto the outside stage at The Elephant Hotel and space there starts to evaporate, it's clear that Melbourne psych behemoth King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are about to show their wares, having been last year's inaugural recipients of the Carlton Dry Global Music Grant at the annual AIR awards. It's such a cool initiative to help Aussie bands broach the logistical hell of cracking the overseas market, and KG&TLW thank them profusely for the touring opportunity before bursting into a flurry of good time rock'n'roll.

Their songs are fun and driving and raucous and oddball in all the right ways, and with all seven members - including two drummers, natch - looking like they're having a blast, it's a visual extravaganza to boot. It sounds great and the big crowd laps it up, the perfect precursor to night two proper of BIGSOUND Live.
