"We've forgotten all about work tomorrow and wanna know where we can catch up with Jamie T for a pint later."
The audience seem somewhat stiff, as if conscious of their impending work days tomorrow, as Hockey Dad take to the stage. Impervious to this, the surf-rock duo begin belting out indie-pop tracks from their album Boronia.
Zach Stephenson lends his unique crooning to lovesick ballads while Billy Fleming bounces around on the drums like a blonde-haired Animal. Singles A Night Out With and Seaweed earn warm receptions from the crowd while The Croxton's kitchen gets a nod via Stephenson's testament: "You'll have to excuse me, I ate a chicken parmigiana 20 minutes ago... It was fucken sick!" The duo create a full band sound and we're in love with this rendition of hit single I Need A Woman.
Jamie Treays (aka Jamie T) is collected as he appears under blue and red flood lights. A deafening roar erupts as Power Over Men sweeps across the now-raucous crowd. Single Tescoland follows as a Vodka Red Bull aroma saturates the audience. Dragon Bones amps us up enough to prompt Treays' request to treat this show as if it's his last: "This responsibility is yours. We'll do our best, but we play this shit every night." Salvador quickly sweeps us back to his first album Panic Prevention before Treays admits it's his and the drummer Vicky Smith's birthday. A sweet dedication of The Prophet leaves us unprepared for when Treays breaks into If You Got The Money. Every member of the sold-out crowd is now on support vocals. 368 sees us swaying our pints and The Man's Machine furthers the assimilation. Treays is just one of the lads from your local. Every track elevates and Sheila has us jumping all over each other as we chant, "Drunk, she stumbles down by a river/Screams calling LONDON!" Tinfoil Boy takes us even further down the (appropriately named track) Rabbit Hole before the set climaxes with Sticks 'N' Stones.
Jamie T plays bangers from his entire discography and encore Back In The Game taunts us as there's only one track left. There's a drawn-out and teased start to crowd favourite Zombie and Treays enlightens, "I was waiting for your phones to go down. Live in the moment, yeah?" While the entire set is worth filming, the up-tempo track drives us wild. We've forgotten all about work tomorrow and wanna know where we can catch up with Jamie T for a pint later.
