With messy punk attitude and subtle hints of harmoniousness, Alarm Bells deliver another exercise in thrashing, experimental post-rock. Opener Hold Down is a brash, bratty explosion of frenetic guitars and messy, grating vox that doesn’t capture the artistry of Part One. However Must Be Something I Took and Compounds bring it back. Their melodies are buried by clanging noise and indiscriminate wails that seem wholly uninterested in appeasing listeners; yet they can’t help but do so. At times, mood-shifting, marathon closer Come overplays the screech factor, but you’ve gotta admire the well-executed gall shown throughout.
