HYLA's 5 Fave WA Acts
Our Stagebound selection selects five WA-based artists of their own.. As part of Southbound's Stagebound competition, three acts have been chosen to go in the running for a chance to play at next year's edition of the Festival, with three media outlets each picking one to get behind. Dream-pop shoegazers HYLA are our boys (click HERE to get to know 'em a little better here), and we thought we'd find out a few of their favourite local tunes ahead of voting closing for the Stagebound competition at the end of the month. You can vote for them HERE before 11.59 Sunday 30 November, it will take you less than a minute, and automatically puts you in the draw to WIN A HAPPY CAMPER DOUBLE PASS TO SOUTHBOUND. Slumberjack EP - Track By Track
The boys give us a guide to their new self-titled EP.. Perth production duo Slumberjack are having a pretty great run lately, most recently popping up on the influential Skrillex Selects Top 10 Soundcloud chart for their track Body Cry feat. Father Dude. That same track pops up on their new self-titled EP, which has just been released today, and which you can buy HERE, and Morgan and Fletcher were kind enough to take us through each song on the four-tracker: BODY CRY FEAT. FATHER DUDE Morgan: The original version of Body Cry was actually a completely different track to the one that’s on the EP.  We wrote it almost a year ago and just kept tinkering with it as we improved our production skills. We only recently got in touch with Father Dude to do some vocals on it and it was almost set to go but there was just something about the whole track that didn’t quite sit right and it frustrated us for the longest time. The ‘answer’ came to me mid-shower; I ran out to write the whole thing down

New Music - Hudson Mohawke, 'Chimes' Remix
Pusha T, Future, French Montana, and Travi$ Scott do over Hudson Mohawke's 'Chimes'.. 28 year-old Glaswegian tyke Hudson Mohawke makes earth-shaking, maximalist electronic bangers and devastates pretty much every building he's asked to play in. A few months ago he released his first proper solo record since 2009's Butter - dropping the Chimes EP on Flying Lotus' Warp Records label. Packed tight with spectacular synthwork and brass bad-assery, the four tracks sit somewhere between experimental and danceable, and whilst at four tracks in length it might not be a feast, there's certainly plenty enough to blow your mind in there. The cover art's a trip, too. Yung HudMo's no stranger to the rap world: as one half of the triumphant TNGHT duo, his unreleased track R U Ready formed the backbone of Blood On The Leaves, a huge number off Kanye West's Yeezus (there's a good read about HudMo's work with Yeezus over at Pitchfork). HudMo went on to rack up production credits on Kanye's I Am a God, D

Interview: Sasha Grey
Talking Turkish electronic jazz clubs, her industrial goth band and Slayer.. Porn star-turned-author-turned-model-turned-actress-turned-DJ (not all in that order) Sasha Grey touches down in Australia in a couple of weeks for her upcoming Here I Am DJ tour, and we were fortunate enough to get a little bit of chat time in between her traversing the globe. As mentioned in the tour announcement (check it HERE for all the show dates), the time for getting sulky when someone you know from a different career turns to DJing is over. As long as they can back it up with actual skill, it's fair game. I guarantee at least one person in your friend circle is a DJ. I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks what Grey's got, but until then you can find a little more about how she got started in the clubs, what we can expect for the shows, and her knowledge of Australian music. Hey Sasha, thanks for taking the time to answer these questions! I’ll start with a pretty basic/annoying one – your DJ career is

No Money Weekend
Welcome to your $0 weekend.. Just cause your bank account’s in the negative doesn’t mean your weekend’s gotta be a drag. Here's our guide on how to extract the mostest fun on the leastest money.   Header Image: Lukasz Wierzbowski LET MEI MOVE YOU Hands down the best thing you’ll spend a fiver on all weekend. Yep, it’s not free, but it’s cheap-as, and it’s worth every cent. One of Perth’s most captivating and soulful female singers, Mei Saraswati (whom you might have seen totally destroy the Boiler Room in her other act, Savoir - check out new music from those guys here), has assembled a super group of talented Perth musicians to back her (already brilliant) solo compositions. You’ll also get to check out the loose, spaced-out experi-funk/disco of Cosmo Gets, who have a new live show, replete with trippy visuals and alien vocoders, that absolutely rules. Sat Nov 22, 8pm – 12am, The Bird, 181 William Street, Northbridge. $5. “Dress breezy”. Event HERE. Above: Mei Saraswati (photo by Amb

Introducing: La Mar
Meet the duo behind Stoney Roads Records' second-ever release.. Since announcing the launch of their new Stoney Roads Records label, the good lads over at Stoney Roads have dropped two tunes thus far. The first saw some fairly chilled future-beat stylings in the form of 20-year-old German producer Mazde and his tune Shifted Thoughts feat. La Mar. Since then the featured vocalists on that track - La Mar - can proudly laid claim to release 002 - Anchor, another very chilled slice of groovy electronica. Take a listen below, and get to know the Sydney duo after that: What kinda tunes we talkin’? Smooth, slow, electronic. It’s about taking the vibe that inspired us and making other people feel the same way. Production/writing process: Plug in a Fender Rhodes, a moog and a microphone. Then have a click around in Ableton. Keeping the process as fluid as possible. What do you do outside of La Mar? We are both pretty focused on music and it is a huge part of our lives.
