...orchestrated by Prokofiev's grandson, no less

Sometimes you have to work for it, and sometimes the world just gives it to you. Today is definitely one of the latter cases, as the internet has seen the arrival of footage depicting rotund rhymer Sir Mix-A-Lot performing his quintessential ode to the gluteus maximus, Baby Got Back, with the esteemed instrumentalists of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

As if that mental image isn't brilliant enough on its own, the performance was orchestrated by Gabriel Prokofiev, the grandson of famed classical Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953). It takes a couple of minutes to get going, but, once it does, just you try and stop your booty from getting into it.

Who said the classical world is a rigid place? That genuinely looks like one of the most fun times you could possibly have. Nobody at that show seems remotely cynical about what is happening, and it is wonderful.

The evening was part of Seattle Symphony's acclaimed Sonic Evolution project, which Sir Mix-A-Lot cheekily refers to as "Orchestral Movements From The Hood" Night in the clip.

The event is designed to bridge the Symphony's work with that of the city's "most creative musicians"; now in its third year, it has become a veritably institutional retrospective of Seattle's musical past, present and future.

Sir Mix-A-Lot also performed a rendition of Posse On Broadway on the evening, as well as being the inspiration for a brand new composition written by Prokofiev specifically for the concert. The rapper's last release was the 2003 LP Daddy's Home.
