Taking place on Saturday, 20 July, Johan Cruyff ArenA in Amsterdam was taken over for a stadium-sized rave for “the world’s hard techno rave!” as quoted by event organisers.
Ravers were greeted with all the lights and pyro of a typical big-deal event, except this time, taking up a dance floor with 40,000 other music-chasers.
Announced in August of last year, the Verknipt Arena event boasted top DJs such as French multi-genre DJ Shlømo, Dutch old-school techno spinner DIØN, and US-born dance artist Sara Landry. The night was headlined by a B3B (three back-to-backs) between Franky-B, Ketting, and Cynthia Spiering.
Ravers could experience the euphoria of a good bass drop for 11.5 hours as the event ran overnight from 8:30 pm to 8 am, with organisers writing on the Verknipt socials:
“We just wrote history with the largest hard techno rave ever, where 40,000 ravers united in chaotic harmony, revelling in distortion, breaking the rules, and exploring sounds that push the boundaries of the rave culture.”

While it won’t draw a whopping 40,000 punters to its site, a different rave recently made Australian headlines: Peking Duk and What So Not were successful in pitching a rave at Bunnings.
The Bunnings rave will star Peking Duk and What So Not, as well as 19-year-old producer Kaila—who started the petition with a Bunnings remix. More local acts will be added before the event, which will take place in the next few weeks.
A spokesperson for Bunnings confirmed the party was on last week. In a statement to Mumbrella, the spokesperson said, “It comes with great excitement to confirm that together with Peking Duk, What So Not and Kaila, we’ve found a way to give the people what they want – the Bunnings Warehouse Party is happening.”
