Introduce yourself to a dulcet new voice from our very own shores
Emergent folk-pop singer-songwriter Alys Ffion has been having a massive year since releasing new single Almost Love in December, having played alongside Reece Mastin on his recent Down To Earth tour as well as heading to Florida last month for the Rock The Grid festival.
Since the release of new single Gasoline last month, she's been enjoying a little bit of a downtime at the moment, but that doesn't mean she's content to step away from our focus just yet; in fact, she's just released a gorgeous live video of her playing new track Shannon, which she wrote for her "sweet friend", Amith, and based on his real-life experiences of love and loss.
"In early 2015, I discovered the Instagram account of a complete stranger, whose starkly honest posts and powerful message left me aching to write this song," Ffion said of the song in a statement. "A young man, whose name is Amith, had suddenly lost his high school sweetheart, Shannon, and was sharing the adventures of their teen love and his grieving on his Instagram account. Some posts were dreamy and reminiscent, others vulnerable, confused and sad. But, no matter what, the reigning theme throughout ALL of the posts was that he was encouraging HOPE, perseverance and it was clear he was NEVER going to give up.
"It took me a year after completing the song to pluck up the courage to show him. We shared lots of tears and have an amazing experience and connection through music, which is something I will always remember. I am grateful to have crossed paths with such a strong and genuinely humble man, I'm glad to now call him my friend."
