Ah Trees

This year saw Ah Trees release indie-pop singles Chippy and Team Sports; they also released videos for their tracks Easy and most recent single Team Sports. They received triple j Unearthed radio play and were part of RTRFM’s Sound Selection for Team Sports.

Ah Trees received coverage across Pilerats, Hysteria Mag, theMusic.com.au, The Ink Grid and Tone Deaf. They supported the likes of Gypsy & The Cat, Katy Steele and Lanark, and were finalists in Sunset Events Path To Laneway competition.

Human Buoy

Human Buoy was formed in late 2015 and has seen a quick rise through its psych-pop sounds. Supports include slots for artists such as Sugar Army, Mosquito Coast, Koi Child, Shiny Joe Ryan, Katy Steele, Gunns, The High Learys and Jimmy Chang.

Two singles — Oxygen and, more recently, Period Of Maximum Excitability — were released, receiving wide press coverage. Each single also received some triple j play on Good Nights and Home & Hosed. RTRFM featured Oxygen and also had Human Buoy play their Hidden Treasures — Fremantle’s Winter Music Series event.

POW Negro

Psychedelic jazz-rock hip-hop outfit POW Negro released two singles this year, Racketball and Los Silos Session. They won $10,000 through the Big Splash Band Competition, and played Wave Rock Weekender, Stones Throw Records 20th-anniversary tour, Hidden Treasures — Fremantle’s Winter Music Series, and Fairbridge Festival.

POW Negro has supported the likes of Old Blood, Koi Child, Spit Syndicate, REMI, SAMPA The Great, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and the Galloping Foxleys.

The Money War

Since their formation in April, lush-pop outfit The Money War released their debut single Give It Time along with an accompanying music video. Give It Time gained RTRFM Sound Selection and has had triple j airplay along with four-star reviews from Declan Byrne, Stacy Gougoulis and Dave Ruby Howe. The video also has had some rage play.

The Money War received coverage in Happy, and the band have announced that their debut EP will be released through littleBIGMANrecords.

Verge Collection

Australiana rockers Verge Collection released singles Class Of ‘09 and Postcodes from their recently released Open Plan Living EP. They also dropped a music video for Our Place, premiered by triple j’s Dom Alessio via Home & Hosed.

The band toured nationally, were picked for BIGSOUND, played Sounds Of The Suburbs, Hidden Treasures — Fremantle’s Winter Music Series, Groovin The Moo, State Of The Art Festival, RTRFM’s In The Pines, and the North Fremantle Pub Crawl. Supports slots include SKEGGS, Stonefield, Tired Lion, Cold War Kids, The Charlatans (UK), Horror My Friend, Saskwatch and Bad//Dreems.

The band had triple j radio play and received wide media coverage. They also were featured on RTRFM’s The View From Here.
