FOAM – Get On Board

Garage rockers FOAM dropped their single I Could Milk Myself in July and took it on a massive month-long national tour in August, covering Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic and WA. The single received airplay on triple j. They released the music video for latest single Get On Board, which premiered on Tone Deaf, in September, with the single to feature on their forthcoming album.

FOAM played the Rosemount Hotel’s NYE Fiesta supporting Jebediah and Tired Lion. Other local supports include Hideous Sun Demon, Shit Narnia, Skullcave, and Pat Chow.

Hideous Sun Demon – Cul De Sac Vision

Hideous Sun Demon are a psych-fuelled garage post-punk outfit. This year saw them release three singles, Oscillate, Cul De Sac Vision and Bad Girl, in advance of their still-to-be-released Industry Connections album. Music videos were released for both Cul De Sac Vision and Bad Girl. Earlier in the year, Hideous Sun Demon hit Melbourne for a tour and, more recently, they completed their Bad Girl national single tour. 

The band were accepted into BIGSOUND, and also played Sign My Band, Laneway and the North Fremantle Pub Crawl. Coverage of Hideous Sun Demon in 2016 came from outlets including The AU Review, Rolling Stone Australia, theMusic.com.au, YEWTH mag, Happy, Rare Finds, Punk Aristocrats, I OH YOU, NME, AAA–Backstage, Pilerats and Tone Deaf. This year saw the band support Mangelwurzel, The Shabbab, The Murlocs, Endless Boogie (US), Thee Oh Sees (US) and Mt. Mountain.

Koi Child – 1-5-9

Koi Child’s year saw them tour their seven-piece hip-hop show nationally, twice — once for their self-titled album launch and later in the year to tour their single Touch ‘Em — and they released two music videos, 1-5-9 and Touch ‘Em.

They received national radio play, international radio play (Beats 1 Radio) and coverage across numerous publications. They played NYE On The Hill, Southbound Fire Fundraisers, Golden Plains Festival, State Of The Art Festival, Volumes 2016 and Strawberry Fields, and supported the likes of Tame Impala, Fat Freddy’s Drop and John Butler Trio.

Methyl Ethel – Idée Fixe

Dream-pop band Methyl Ethel’s year started with a national tour of shows and festivals and is ending with a world tour of shows and festivals, a few of which were/are: Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia, Latitude Festival, Splendour in the Grass, SXSW, Laneway and The Great Escape.

They released their music video for Idée Fixe and received prominent coverage from Rolling Stone, NME, Pitchfork and label 4AD.

RAG N’ BONE – I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore

Post-grunge rockers RAG N’ BONE have had an absolutely huge year. They’ve played a bunch of local events including the Beaufort St Festival, North Fremantle Pub Crawl, Fremantle Winter Music Festival, and Mt. Hawthorn Streets & Laneway Festival, as well as overseas festivals such as Rock a La Buse Festival on Reunion Island and Music Matters in Singapore.

The band toured eastern China in September and played Concrete & Grass Festival in Shanghai. They have been selected to feature on Ravine des Roques’ compilation CD, Indian Ocean Rock, and were added to spot rotation on triple j with their single I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore, the music video for which premiered via Happy mag in July.

Tired Lion – Not My Friends

Rock outfit Tired Lion spent much of their year touring nationally and through the EU. Major festival slots included The Plot, Latitude Festival, Splendour In The Grass, 2000 Trees Festival, Glastonbury Festival, ANTIFest, RTRFM’s In The Pines and The Hills Are Alive. They’ve also been announced for Yours & Owls Festival, Southbound and Falls festival.

Main support slots include Weaves and Spiderbait and the recent Violent Soho shows. Tired Lion were added to full rotation on triple j, and received wide coverage. They also released a music video for their new single, Not My Friends
