"We asked him to cease and desist long ago."
Disco legends Village People have taken aim at Donald Trump over the outgoing President's consistent use of their classic track, YMCA, at rallies around the US.
As TMZ reports, the 1978 song was again used by Trump following his final public address, despite the claim by the US group that "we asked him to cease and desist long ago."
"However, since he's a bully, our request was ignored," Village People said in a statement.
"Thankfully he's now out of office, so it would seem his abusive use of our music has finally ended.
"We hope to spearhead a change in copyright law that will give artists and publishers more control over who can and cannot use our music in the public space. Currently there is no limit to blanket licensing."
Throughout his presidency, a number of musicians called out Trump publicly for using their music at campaigns and rallies including The Rolling Stones, Queen, Aerosmith, REM, Panic! At The Disco, Pharell and Eddy Grant, as well as the estate of Prince and Tom Petty's family.
In July last year, over 50 musicians including some of the above names and others like Lorde and Rihanna signed a petition calling for US politicians to seek permission for using their songs at rallies.
