The Pointer Sisters are experiencing an unexpected wave of viral fame after their 1986 song, Hot Together, featured in the new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer.
Since the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer premiered on YouTube this week, it’s already amassed over 95 million views. The Rockstar Games account on social media has also gathered millions of views for the highly anticipated trailer, including on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter).
With The Pointer Sisters’ feature, though, GTA fans have been getting into the game’s zone, playing the song non-stop on Spotify. At the time of publication, Hot Together has gained an incredible 182,000% boost on streaming.
“Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else,” said Spotify’s Global Head of Editorial, Sulinna Ong (via Digital Music News). “Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way.”
The Pointer Sisters aren’t just attracting fans on Spotify; their fanbase has also grown on Apple Music and YouTube since the release of the GTA trailer.
The group added, “Grand Theft Auto (GTA) has included Hot Together in season 6. The result is a stratospheric 182,000 % increase in global streams on Spotify in comparison with the same period 1 week prior!”

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 26 May 2026.
Time will tell, but The Pointer Sisters could experience the extraordinary levels of streams Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kate Bush secured after their tracks were synced in Saltburn and Stranger Things, respectively.
Due to the film’s success (and meme-ability), Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor reached a new generation of listeners and encouraged fans from the early days to re-listen. The song and film’s impact can’t be understated – on the first UK Singles Chart of 2024, Murder On The Dancefloor landed at #8, its first chart success since peaking at #2 in 2001.
In June 2022, Kate Bush achieved her first #1 single in 44 years, with Stranger Things featuring her song Running Up That Hill.
