More Trivium More Trivium

American heavy metal band Trivium consistently tour and are currently working on a new album.

But those two essential tasks of being a touring band can be difficult when you don’t have a full-time drummer. Trivium has three longtime members – vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy, second guitarist Corey Beaulieu, and bassist Paolo Gregoletto, but keeping a drummer hasn’t always been easy.

Founding member and drummer Travis Smith stayed the longest, from 1999 to 2010, and since then, Trivium has had five other drummers (four of whom have recorded albums with the band).

Most recently, Trivium have been touring with Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman, who replaced Alex Bent, who played with the band for nine years. However, due to scheduling constraints, Nekrutman is unable to commit to Trivium’s upcoming plans, including a North American tour with Jinjer and Heriot and a new album cycle.

So, the metal group have locked in a drummer they’ve kept an eye on for years: Alex Rüdinger, who fans might recognise for his work in deathcore band Whitechapel.

As confirmed by Trivium this morning, Rüdinger will join the band’s tour from next week and participate in their upcoming writing sessions. See what the band had to say about their latest drummers below.

Trivium last toured across Australia in March 2023, when they also appeared on the inaugural Knotfest Australia line-up alongside Slipknot, Parkway Drive, Megadeth, Spiritbox, and many other bands.

Reviewing their set at Knotfest in Brisbane, The Music’s Tim Price commented that Heafy “delivered a masterclass in modern metal.” Price added: “He really does spearhead the band and anchor it in such a way as to translate it to the crowd and the fans, and there is such precision in the delivery.”

Hi everyone:

As we prepare to hit the road next week for our North American tour we wanted to explain where we are with our drummer.

We want to sincerely thank Greyson Nekrutman for stepping in and crushing it with us at Aftershock Festival. It was an honor to share the stage with such a powerhouse talent, and we’re grateful to both Greyson and Sepultura for making it possible.

As we look ahead to our North American tour with Jinjer and Heriot and into a new album cycle, the realities of scheduling made it clear that Greyson wouldn’t be able to continue with us for the tour. There’s nothing but respect between us — Greyson is a humble, confident, and passionate musician, and we’ll always be fans.

That said, we’re excited to share that we’ve reconnected with a drummer we’ve known for over a decade — Alex Rudinger (formerly of Whitechapel). Fun fact: we asked Alex to join Trivium nine years ago, but the timing didn’t align.

Alex Rudinger will join us on tour starting next week and will be part of our writing sessions for the next Trivium record. We’re thrilled to finally share the stage with him and explore what’s ahead.

See you on the road.
